| Bio: | 2006/06/28 - Time to update this thing. I am a introverted geek. I love hardcore sci-fi, with my current favorite author being Larry Niven. I like playing with PC hardware, but admit I'm out of my league when it comes to keeping up with the latest gaming equipment or what the overclocker crowd is doing. Yes, I use Windows. I've tried Linux off and on for about a decade, but always run into some sort of deal-breaking snag, lately because of either multiple monitor support or the latest MMO I'm addicted to. I'm gay, single, and somewhat looking. I'm trying to hold out for the perfect person, and if I never meet him, that's okay by me. As long as I keep a close friend and a roommate, my social and financial needs are pretty much taken care of. Sex isn't a requirement for living. I am an anthropomorphics enthusiast. Yes, furries. It ties in with the sci-fi interests of alternate realities, "What if x were to happen?", and so on. Also my hippie peacenik interests, in which, yes, the lion can lie down with the lamb, and everybody's happy, whee! And a bit of the animation, where cartoon characters can defy laws of physics, and emerge from the most brutal violence unscathed (unless it's funny). I'm not an artist, author, costumer, or anything creative like that, so I really don't contribute a lot to the fandom. Conventions I go to: Anthrocon - I haven't actually attended this lately, with it being so far away, but now that it moved to the new location I think I'll be going to it yearly. Huge conspace, lots of room to grow. It's the con you go to to meet people who can only go to one con. Midwest Furfest - Started out small, grown bigger every year. It's only about a two and a half hour drive from me, so I really have no excuse not to attend. It's a relax-a-con, a great place to meet and hang out with groups of friends. Morphicon - A great small con. Great place to make good friends, as there aren't too many people there who are already hanging out in groups. They're not afraid to be experimental with programming, either, so there's a huge variety of things to do, even if there's only half a dozen people doing it - like I said, great place to make good friends. My current MMO addiction(s) is/are: Politically, my viewpoints generally turn out to be left-of-center. I don't affiliate with any particular political party, but tend to shy away from Republicans, who I fear are becoming more and more a tool for religious fundamentalists and evil big business, and less their conservatist roots of minimal government intrusion and fiscal responsibility. Though I feel hatred, partisan bickering, and smug self-righteousness are hurting the political system and my country's government more than any particular ideology. I'm open to agreeing with pretty much anything, as long as it's carefully thought out and not based on hatred, greed, racism/culturalism, or spite. As for religion, I tend not to have one. I don't really understand it. I guess some would call me agnostic, as I'd admit that there may exist powers, forces, causes, and effects beyond our current comprehension. I'm an atheist, though, in that I believe everything ultimately has a natural explanation, instead of a supernatural one. However, anyone is free to think what they wish to think, as arguments about things that can't be proven or disproven are inherently time-wasting, and generally leads to needless conflict. Not believing proven, scientific facts, or ignoring tons of independently gathered agreeing data, though, makes a person a loony. Philosophically, I think Secular Humanism best describes my stances. I have faith that humanity as a whole is able to work towards its own betterment. I don't like guns, or violence. I guess I'm just weird that way. As a tribute to my weirdness, I have vowed not to pick up, touch, or use any gun or similar weapon, real or virtual. Yes, that means I won't play games where I have to use guns. This might even be sour grapes, as before I had this revelation, I really sucked at first person shooters. I don't try to advocate this belief, but I do get uncomfortable when the subject comes up. | |
